Paper is all around us, today we will learn about the history of paper for kids. Paper was first made in China more than 2,000 years ago when an official named Cai Lun, who worked for the Imperial court during the Han Dynasty (202 BCE-220 CE), created a sheet of paper using discarded silk fibers crushed along with old rags and some vegetable fibers from bamboo, straw and seaweed.

Before the invention of paper, people wrote in stone, clay bricks, bones or wood, but the creation of the first sheet of paper, changed the history of writing, and the history of humankind forever.

Paper was first used for writing; by 6th century toilet paper was starting to be used in China as well. During the next hundred years, paper tea bags were invented, using folded and sewn little square bags China was also the first country to issue paper-printed money.

After the 8th century, paper spread to the Islamic world, where they made thicker sheets of paper and they were able to produce it faster. When.

During the renaissance period, the moors invaded Spain and brought this knowledge to Europe. Very soon, Johannes Gutenberg invented the press and the hundreds of paper books were published.
