How to work with transparencies in Photoshop

Transparency in Photoshop is an effect applied to an object or a layer which allows items beneath it to show through.

One way to achieve this is to lower the opacity of the layer we want to make transparent. In the following example we are going to work with 2 different layers and 1 photograph.

The first layer is pure white, the second layer is a texture and the third is a picture of a dancer.

We are going to mix the texture with the white layer to make it softer. We go to the layers palette and lower the opacity until we get the desired effect.

Then we applied a layer mask to the dancer picture to remove some areas and finally fix every layer’s opacity to make it look ethereal.
